What the Google Page Experience Update Means for Your Website

International Women’s Day celebrates women’s economic, political, and social achievements.

It also calls for reflection on our progress in working towards gender equality. Since the early 1900s, women around the world have campaigned for the same rights as their male counterparts — particularly in the workplace.

Women make up 60% of the WebFX team — that’s more than Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google, or Microsoft.

Today, over a century after the first public campaign for change in the United States, there is still much to be done to make our nation’s workforce more diverse and inclusive. This is especially true in the tech industry, where women make up only 33% of the employees and 28% of leadership roles.

At WebFX, we pride ourselves on being an anomaly within our industry. Women make up 60% of the WebFX team — that’s more than Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google, or Microsoft — and hold exactly half of the leadership roles in different departments.

So in honor of International Women’s Day, we asked a few of the talented women we work with every day to share their experiences as part of the WebFX team:

Karie Shearer: Co-Founder

“Here at WebFX, we strive to create an open and positive atmosphere. We value everyone’s ideas and give each employee an equal opportunity to be heard and to lead, regardless of gender or ethnicity. As we continue to grow, we’ve made it a point to start initiatives like flexible work hours and work from home days to help employees balance work and life, especially as many of our female employees begin to have children.”

Mary Shirey: Sr Director of People Ops & Internet Marketing Strategy

“One of my favorite things about working at WebFX is the respect I receive and the way my opinions and input are valued. And it’s not just because I’m a manager – it’s how everyone is treated. We’re all encouraged to provide suggestions for how our services and processes could be improved.”

Kelly Zarcone: Director of Interactive Services

“In my 7 years with WebFX, I have advanced from a project manager to the manager of three unique departments all while growing my own family at home. Through the transitions at work and home, WebFX and I collaborated in setting up a flexible and unique schedule that works for me and my family. I take pride in the fact I love the company I work for while being a role model for my daughters and showing them that you can have a successful and fulfilling life, both at home and at work.”

Luisa Garcia Vega: Lead Internet Marketing Consultant

“Not too long ago, I found myself chatting with a friend about careers, and she was asking me about my experiences after college. I mentioned I that was working at a digital marketing agency and one of the first things she asked was how difficult it was to be a woman in the tech industry. Honestly, since working at WebFX, this was the first time that this particular issue crossed my mind. I was privileged enough to answer her question by simply reassuring her that there are companies like WebFX, even in the tech industry, that value skills and abilities over gender!”

Katie Kelly: COO

“I feel lucky every day to work in a company that values hard work, creativity, solutions, and results. These qualities are not defined by gender, and there is no place that lives this philosophy more than WebFX. We’re about having a great attitude and getting stuff done. That’s where the power is. We aren’t men or women here – we’re winners!”

Katie Goodling: Senior Director of Social Media

“I have never been so empowered as a woman in the workplace as I have been at WebFX, and I’ve worked quite a few places. We are a close-knit family with a culture centered around supporting one another. I truly don’t think there is a better place to work for women in marketing and technology, and I am lucky to work with so many smart and passionate women and men.”
